DRONE WORKSHOP

Drones are being used more and more in everyday life. They are used to survey land, track wildfires, deliver packages, and make movies. But how much do you know about them? In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn about the different parts of a drone. You will learn the science behind drone flight, and even get to fly a drone on several missions. So join us as we have fun and explore the newest technology in vertical flight.

Date:  Saturday, February 3rd, 1 - 4 pm

Ages:  8  - 12 Fee:  $80 (includes a drone)

CHEMICAL REACTIONS WORKSHOP

What is chemistry and how do we use it every day? What is a chemical reaction and how is it different from a physical reaction? We’ll learn this and more as we perform some hands-on experiments to learn about acids and bases, polymer chains, combustion, and electrolysis.

Date:  Saturday, February 10th, 1 - 3 PM

Ages:  9 - 14 Fee:  $30

SATURN V WORKSHOP

In this workshop, we will take a closer look at one of the most powerful rockets ever, the Saturn V. As part of the Apollo program, the Saturn V is the rocket that successfully took us to the moon and back.  What impact did Robert Goddard have on this rocket? What kind of fuel did it use to launch into space? What are rocket stages and how many did the Saturn V utilize? We’ll answer these questions and do some hands-on experiments to learn just why this rocket was able to get us to the moon.

LIFE IN SPACE WORKSHOP

To boldly go where no man has gone before…well, actually, we have been venturing into space since the late 1950s.In this workshop, we discuss the force of gravity and use Newton’s third law of motion to launch a rocket. Once in space, we learn about freefall and microgravity. As we orbit, we explain how satellites help the spacecraft communicate with mission control. We will enlist someone to do some work in a simulated microgravity environment. We will discuss the many functions of the space suit, and we’ll even let one lucky volunteer try on “The World’s Cheapest Space Suit.”

Date:  Saturday,  April 6th, 1 - 3 PM

Ages:  7 - 12  Fee:  $30

MISSION TO MARS WORKSHOP

What does it take to get us to Mars? What are the things we would have to do to live on the red planet? In this out-of-the-world workshop, we will discuss the challenges of getting and living on Mars. What kind of rocket do we need? What would a colony on Mars look like? How do we grow food and produce oxygen to breathe? We try some hands-on experiments to discover the answers to some of these questions.

Date:  Saturday,  May 11th, 1 - 3 PM

Ages:  6 - 11  Fee:  $30

ENGINEERING WORKSHOP

What is engineering and how do we encounter it every day? There are many kinds of engineering, but in this workshop, we will focus on civil engineering, Civil engineers build bridges, airports, roads, tunnels, and many other things. What stresses are there on structures? What shapes are the strongest? We’ll build some structures to test out what we have just learned.

Date:  Saturday, September 28th, 1 - 3 PM

Ages: 6-11  Fee:  $30
